33 % More Fun

Life is supposed to be fun

Finding a Peaceful Place

This morning I woke up feeling good. I felt renewed and excited about what the day would bring. I’ve been in a funk that last few days and I was tired of feeling blah. So last night as I lay day for bed I thought, “What do I like to do?” Camping came to mind. Then I thought, “Why do I like it?” Then my mind really started racing! “I like the feeling of being outside. I like the feeling of wide open space. I like the beauty of nature. I like the way it smells and sounds. I like the smell of fall and the beautiful colors on all the trees. I like the feeling of the crisp cool air. I like bundling up in sweaters. I like the feeling of freedom I feel when I camp. I get to choose what I do with my time. I like the people I go camping with. I like being in this nice easy environment where we are all relaxed and able to enjoy each other. I like sitting around campfires and enjoying stories. I like roasting marshmallows and eating s’mores. And at the end of the night I like staring up at the stars and feeling the vastness of the universe….” And so my mind continued on, feeling wonderful as I drifting off into a peaceful sleep. And somewhere, as I slept, my attitude of my life was changing, allowing me to wake up feeling wonderful and refresh, almost as if I had just actually gone camping. It’s amazing what the mind can do and how these little things can change our view on life.

Message on a Bottle…Cap

There is nothing quite like a hidden message to put a smile on your face. Like the message on the opposite side of a dove candy. “Your smile lights up a room.” Aww how cute, I guess I will smile more.

Open that bottle of beer and on the other side of the cap is a quote that says “Good for You!” That’s right! Good for me for opening a beer. I feel much better now.

This post may sound a bit sarcastic, but I sincerely think that sometimes the little things can help make life so enjoyable. So go for it, take the advice on these wrappers and caps and just see what happens. If nothing else, you’re day is surely to be 33% brighter.

Slow dance

The BF and I headed to my friend’s wedding this weekend. It was tons of fun. We spent a lot of time discussing what we would like at our wedding (Right!?!, Totally crazy and awesome at the same time.) We also spent a fair amount of time on the dance floor, swinging, twisting, jumping, and having fun. The last song of the night was Brian Adams “Everything I do, I do it for you.” The DJ asked all the single people to stay on the dance floor and dance as well. As I slowed dance with Nathan, it finally really hit me that I’m no longer one of the single girls. I’m no longer is some relationship that I don’t know what’s going to happen next. To people on the outside looking in, it seems as if we are moving fast. But really it just seems like this beautiful slow dance, swaying to the beat of our own hearts.

Icees

Not too long ago I went and ran some errands with my new boyfriend. It was really our first shopping experience together and I wasn’t really sure how it would go. It was going along just fine until we ended up in the makeup aisle. (Anyone who knows me realizes what a funny statement that is.) I happened to need some new makeup, but because I don’t wear it very often I have no idea how to shop for it. I was picking up all sorts of eye shadows, eyeliners, and lipstick and mulling over them for quite a while.

The new BF hung in there pretty well but finally excused himself with some excuse that he needed a drink. I took that cue to mean I needed to hurry up. I quickly made my decision and headed towards the registers. I checked out and as I looked for him I saw my new BF with 2 huge icees. He smiled at me and said, “I figured you would like cherry.” How did he know!?! Cherry is my favorite! I love icees! I practically skipped out of Target feeling like a kid with my hands wrapped around my cherry icee and the biggest smile ever.

“Yup,” I thought to myself, “Life is a good.” A BF who can handle going shopping with me and buys me a cherry icees!!! That definitely makes my life 33% more fun.

Star Gazing

I love the stars and always have. I somehow always feel more connected when I stare up at them. There really isn’t anything better than laying on the grass, staring up at balls of gas burning billions of miles away.

This last weekend was the Perseid meteor shower. I packed up my friends and some blankets and headed way out of town to watch the sky fall on us. It was so nice to be out of the city for the night and remember how much I love the stars.

For a science nerd, way more than 33% more fun.

Puddle Jumping

The summer after 2nd grade my parents sent me to girl scout camp, Camp Anna Behrens. We stayed in cabins and I remember our councilors nick name was Cupcake and she had strawberry blond hair (It’s funny the things you remember). I didn’t really notice as a kid, but it was a rather dismal week. We were quarantined due to pink eye and it continuously rained. We went everywhere in our yellow ponchos and rain boots, sloshing about in the mud the entire week.  I don’t know what led Cupcake to do what she did, maybe she felt we were unhappy and needed some fun or maybe she was fed up with the rain too, but as we walked back from arts and crafts the day before we left she taught us what puddle jumping was. Possibly the BEST THING EVER!!! We got to jump in ALL the puddles as we walked back to the cabins. I remember jumping to see how high I could get the water to go. I had to jump in every puddle, no matter how big or small. The fact that it had rained all week didn’t seem to matter. It was like all those puddles had been made just for us to jump in and it was just so much fun! We were muddy and drenched by the time we got back to the cabin. That’s really all I remember from that week. I have no idea what games we played, arts and crafts we made, or even the friends I surly made. But I tell you what, on any given rainy day I think of going outside and jumping in all the puddles.

And I did just that the other day. I couldn’t contain myself any longer. I often hold myself back from these seemingly childish activities, because I’m afraid of what people thing, or I’m an adult and shouldn’t. But gall darn it all, LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN, and if jumping in puddles is what makes me happy then that’s what I’m going to do and I suggest you try it too, if it sounds like it would add 33% more fun to your life.

Wear More Hats

I have a new friend and she loves to tell me stories. Here is one from this week.

I was sitting at a wedding reception with my daughter and I was wearing one of my sparkly hats and smoking. My daughter in law looked at me and said, “Don’t you feel bad that you are the only one wearing a hat and smoking.” I said, “No I don’t feel bad, I just think everyone else should be wearing a hat and smoking too.”

Expect to start seeing me in more of these….

Ride in a Convertable

Ride in a convertible. Sounds like something I should of had on my life list, and why on earth haven’t I done this sooner? Seriously, it was totally fun. Who knows why? Maybe it was my imagination that I was in some teen drama movie where all of your friend hop in a car (convertible) and just take off. My friend were less impressed than I was but they still helped me to indulge in my idiotic fantasy.

John: “Anyone know where we could get some beers?”
Anne: “Like totally man. You know Jimmy, the quarter back, always has some beer over at his house.”
Katie: “Yah, he just throws the best parties.”
Anne: “Let me text him and see what he’s up to. I’m sure he’s totally down for going to the beach and drinking.”
Katie: “Yah, like maybe he’s even willing to bring some of his friends.”
Anne: “I really hope Rob comes, cause he’s just soooo HOT.”
Katie: “Totally!”

BTW riding in a convertible is really this awesome…

Fun Songs

The other morning I woke up with “I believe I can fly” by R. Kelly stuck in my head. I haven’t heard this song in years and I have no idea why it came to me but it made me feel good about my day. Then, as I drove to work, I saw a beautiful rainbow as the sun was rising. Instantly I had “Somewhere over the Rainbow” by Isreal Kamakawiwo’ole in my head, which is another great feel good song. It started me thinking about how there are those songs, that no matter how bad things seem to be, just seem to brighten your day a little. While at work I thought it would be fun to poll people and find out what their feel good songs were. Here’s some of the songs that people came up with.

Lord Only Know, Beck
Poker Face, Lady Gaga
September, Earth, Wind & Fire
Going the Distance, Cake
Buffalo Soldier, Bob Marley
Twist and Shout, The Beatles
Illegal Smile, John Prine
99 Red Ballons, Neno
Gettin’ Jiggy With it, Will Smith
Moves like Jager, Maroon 5
Viva La Viva, Coldplay
Snow (Hey Oh), Red Hot Chilly Peppers
Life is a Highway, Tom Cochrane
Lost in my Mind, The Head and Heart
It’s a Good Morning, Mandisa
God only Know, Beach Boys
Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Cyndi Lauper
It’s My Life, Bon Jovi
Don’t Stop Believin’, Journey
Sweet Caroline, Neil Diamond

I’m sure this list could continue on forever. Maybe I’ll put out a CD compilation something like this…
