Life is supposed to be fun

Star Gazing

I love the stars and always have. I somehow always feel more connected when I stare up at them. There really isn’t anything better than laying on the grass, staring up at balls of gas burning billions of miles away.

This last weekend was the Perseid meteor shower. I packed up my friends and some blankets and headed way out of town to watch the sky fall on us. It was so nice to be out of the city for the night and remember how much I love the stars.

For a science nerd, way more than 33% more fun.

Puddle Jumping

The summer after 2nd grade my parents sent me to girl scout camp, Camp Anna Behrens. We stayed in cabins and I remember our councilors nick name was Cupcake and she had strawberry blond hair (It’s funny the things you remember). I didn’t really notice as a kid, but it was a rather dismal week. We were quarantined due to pink eye and it continuously rained. We went everywhere in our yellow ponchos and rain boots, sloshing about in the mud the entire week.  I don’t know what led Cupcake to do what she did, maybe she felt we were unhappy and needed some fun or maybe she was fed up with the rain too, but as we walked back from arts and crafts the day before we left she taught us what puddle jumping was. Possibly the BEST THING EVER!!! We got to jump in ALL the puddles as we walked back to the cabins. I remember jumping to see how high I could get the water to go. I had to jump in every puddle, no matter how big or small. The fact that it had rained all week didn’t seem to matter. It was like all those puddles had been made just for us to jump in and it was just so much fun! We were muddy and drenched by the time we got back to the cabin. That’s really all I remember from that week. I have no idea what games we played, arts and crafts we made, or even the friends I surly made. But I tell you what, on any given rainy day I think of going outside and jumping in all the puddles.

And I did just that the other day. I couldn’t contain myself any longer. I often hold myself back from these seemingly childish activities, because I’m afraid of what people thing, or I’m an adult and shouldn’t. But gall darn it all, LIFE IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN, and if jumping in puddles is what makes me happy then that’s what I’m going to do and I suggest you try it too, if it sounds like it would add 33% more fun to your life.
